+ Tuesday 21st – Continuing mission during social distancing

I should have run a guessing competition about the date the church was dedicated before displaying a photo of the stone plaque at the front door. I know I can sometimes walk past something a hundred times and not stop and read it. But I’ve got an advantage with this one because I remember the church being opened just seven or eight weeks before I was ordained by the same Bishop Boded mentioned on the plaque. It was then very uncanny that as I arrived for the first day of ministry at Emu Plains almost 26 years later, I came directly from Bishop Bede’s 90th birthday celebration. There’s my trivia for today! Happy Tuesday everyone.

A continuing mission – “Wrap with Love”

I was walking into the shops to get groceries a few nights ago and bumped into a parishioner walking out with an arm load of wool. Judy is part of a group from Our Lady of the Way who are part of God’s mission by way of using knitting skills and conversation. Each Tuesday morning the group gets together, catches up on the  week and spends time together knitting for a movement called ‘WRAP WITH LOVE’. Obviously in the current social distancing time, the group doesn’t get together physically, but they remain together in their spirit and mission, knitting at home and sharing their concern and care through wool! I snapped a photo this morning of the annual bulletin of ‘Wrap with Love’ – here it is:

The bulletin has 10 pages of beautiful stories of outreach from ‘Wrap with Love’ groups like ours. You mightn’t be able to read clearly from the small photo shown but it says “Our mission is to distribute wraps through Aid Agencies and Charities to those needing warmth”. The child on the front of the bulletin is Zohra from Afghanistan, pictured with one of the woollen wraps from ‘Wrap with Love’ and who is pictured with a smile and quoted saying: “I will take care of it so that I can use it for a long time”.

Here are a few of Judy’s creative productions:

And a few more from other members of the group

Other members of the OLOW ‘Wrap with Love’ group are hiding behind these beautiful examples – Gifts of warmth given to people ‘in the cold’ in various parts of the world.

If this is a way that you or someone else you know would like to express a part of your place in God’s mission – feel welcome to get in touch – and we’ll get you in touch with a member of the ‘Wrap with Love’ group. You can leave a message on the parish office phone: 47351041 or shoot an email with your contact details to the parish office email which is: [email protected]

Thank you to the Parish Wrappers!!! for your woollen warmth mission inspiration through ‘Wrap with Love’.

And just for fun

We can be glad this one’s not true!!!

See you in the next post

With friendship in God’s mission,

fr Paul
