+ Wednesday 29th – Mass today – Half Live Stream and Half Each Person’s Leadership

Dear friends,

There is video of Mass in this post from an Our Lady of the Way live stream today. Let me share the thinking behind the way today’s Mass is being shared. The Eucharistic Prayer below was live streamed via Youtube today (not Facebook for this one). It might sound counter-intuitive, but there’s a good chance that if we over-use our newly refreshed Parish Facebook page, it will actually become less noticed. So, for now, we’ll leave the Facebook live streaming for the weekend. BUT ….

LIVE STREAM OR OTHER? PARISHIONERS CHOICE

Having consulted a good number of parishioners, there are different things they’ve appreciated. Some have told me that they prefer the live stream approach to Mass and actually seeing the altar etc. But a good number have also said they value the approach that mixes recorded pieces texts of prayers and scriptures and some Mass parts. They’ve said things like; ‘it gives me a feeling of having a strong role in the prayer and liturgy’ – or – ‘it supports us as a couple to exercise ministry from our home’.

SO, FOR THE FIRST TIME, TODAY ..

.. I’m trialling a Wednesday idea of inviting people to begin the prayer, penitential, readings and reflection, prayers of the faithful – I’ll share a brief voice recorded homily to add to your reflections .. THEN .. I’ll share a visual video insert from a live stream .. activated from the point of the Mass today at which the gifts of bread and wine are placed on the altar. See what you think of this prayer  experience …

Welcome to Mass for the Wednesday of the Third Week of Easter

Memorial of Saint Catherine of Siena –  ‘Doctor of the Church’

Entrance Antiphon

Here is a wise virgin, from among the number of the prudent,
who went forth with lighted lamp to meet Christ, alleluia.

Sign of the Cross +

Greeting

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the communion of the Holy Spirit
be with us all

Penitential

Let’s take a few moments and with thanks, ponder the mercy and tender accompaniment of the risen Lord: Lord, have mercy  – pause

Christ Jesus, we thank and praise you for showing us and leading us with your remarkable  surrender of trust: Christ, have mercy – pause

Lord Jesus, we thank and praise you that you have enabled us to be Easter people – singing Alleluia now for a permanence of life that has already begun: Lord, have mercy – pause

May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life, Amen

Opening Prayer

Let us pray

O God, who set Saint Catherine of Siena on fire with divine love
in her contemplation of the Lord’s Passion
and her service of your Church,
grant, through her intercession,
that your people,
participating in the mystery of Christ,
may ever exult in the revelation of his glory.
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever

Amen.

The Liturgy of the Word

A Reading from the Acts of the Apostles     (8:1-8)

That day a bitter persecution started against the church in Jerusalem, and everyone except the apostles fled to the country districts of Judaea and Samaria.
There were some devout people, however, who buried Stephen and made great mourning for him.
Saul then worked for the total destruction of the Church; he went from house to house arresting both men and women and sending them to prison.
Those who had escaped went from place to place preaching the Good News. One of them was Philip who went to a Samaritan town and proclaimed the Christ to them. The people united in welcoming the message Philip preached, either because they had heard of the miracles he worked or because they saw them for themselves. There were, for example, unclean spirits that came shrieking out of many who were possessed, and several paralytics and cripples were cured. As a result there was great rejoicing in that town.
The word of the Lord

Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm

Psalm 104(105):1-4,6-9

Response>Let all the earth cry out to God with joy

Cry out with joy to God all the earth,
O sing to the glory of his name.
O render him glorious praise.
Say to God: ‘How tremendous your deeds!

R>Let all the earth cry out to God with joy

Because of the greatness of your strength
  your enemies cringe before you.
Before you all the earth shall bow;
shall sing to you, sing to your name!’

R>Let all the earth cry out to God with joy

Come and see the works of God,
  tremendous his deeds among men.
He turned the sea into dry land,
they passed through the river dry-shod.

R>Let all the earth cry out to God with joy

Let our joy then be in him;
he rules for ever by his might.
His eyes keep watch over the nations:
let rebels not rise against him.

R>Let all the earth cry out to God with joy

Gospel Acclamation

Alleluia, alleluia!

All who believe in the Son have eternal life,
and I will raise them up on the last day, says the Lord

Alleluia!

GOSPEL

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to John  (6:35-40)

Jesus said to the crowd:
‘I am the bread of life.
They who come to me will never be hungry;
They who believe in me will never thirst.
But, as I have told you,
you can see me and still you do not believe.
All that the Father gives me will come to me,
and whoever comes to me I shall not turn them away;
because I have come from heaven, not to do my own will,
but to do the will of the one who sent me.
Now the will of him who sent me
is that I should lose nothing of all that he has given to me,
and that I should raise it up on the last day.
Yes, it is my Father’s will
that whoever sees the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life,
and that I shall raise them up on the last day.’

Let’s each take a few quiet moments and pray our own Prayers of the Faithful –

  • perhaps to start, a prayer of thanks …
  • prayer for the world …
  • prayer for our faith community …
  • prayer for the leadership we each – and others – exercise …
  • ?
  • ?

And so let’s now bring the gifts of bread and wine to the altar for this streaming of the second part of today’s  Mass from Our Lady of the Way

The Liturgy of the Eucharist

With friendship in God’s mission and …

.. I’d be keen to hear any feedback on this structure of liturgy as a Wednesday option – half streamed/video/voice recording and half in each of our hands to take the lead and reflect. Welcome to send me any thoughts or advice to [email protected]

See you in the next Parish Blog post

As the restrictions lessening come in will they allow the outside masses we had before the lock down Father Paul? I guess inside mass will take longer to get going. Have they given any indication of time yet. Thank you for this blog to keep us all involved with our Church.
