+ Wed 13th – Today’s midweek Mass with live stream Liturgy of the Eucharist

A few images included for dog lovers today – just as a simple further way of picking up on a theme of connection and bondedness that comes through strongly in today’s Gospel. Today’s Parish Blog post is the full Mass of the day – but once again is using our Wednesday idea of inviting people to participate in a combination of ways. And so the Intro and Liturgy of the Word uses guided text, voice recordings and the invitation to compose personal prayer to assist reflection – then the Liturgy of the Eucharist and end of Mass uses live stream inserted below. Various people have said that this mixed means enables them to feel an active participation in a different way and so this approach is continuing as a mid week option – with a live stream option on the weekend. Any ongoing advice or feedback is welcome to [email protected] or via the comments section available at the end of the blog post.

OPENING PRAYER

Let us pray

O God, restorer and lover of innocence,
direct the hearts of your servants towards yourself,
that those you have set free from the darkness of unbelief
may never stray from the light of your truth.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever

Amen

THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

1st Reading

A Reading from the Acts of the Apostles    (15:1-6)

Some men came down from Judaea and taught the brothers, ‘Unless you have yourselves circumcised in the tradition of Moses you cannot be saved.’ This led to disagreement, and after Paul and Barnabas had had a long argument with these men it was arranged that Paul and Barnabas and others of the church should go up to Jerusalem and discuss the problem with the apostles and elders.
All the members of the church saw them off, and as they passed through Phoenicia and Samaria they told how the pagans had been converted, and this news was received with the greatest satisfaction. When they arrived in Jerusalem they were welcomed by the church and by the apostles and elders, and gave an account of all that God had done with them.
But certain members of the Pharisees’ party who had become believers objected, insisting that the pagans should be circumcised and instructed to keep the Law of Moses. The apostles and elders met to look into the matter.

The word of the Lord

Thanks be to God.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM

Psalm 121(122):1-5

Response>Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord

I rejoiced when I heard them say:
‘Let us go to God’s house.’
And now our feet are standing
  within your gates, O Jerusalem

R>Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord

I rejoiced when I heard them say:
‘Let us go to God’s house.’
And now our feet are standing
  within your gates, O Jerusalem

R>Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord

For Israel’s law it is,
there to praise the Lord’s name.
There were set the thrones of judgement
  of the house of David

R>Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION               (John 15:4. 5)

Alleluia, alleluia!

Live in me and let me live in you, says the Lord;
my branches bear much fruit

Alleluia!

GOSPEL

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to John  (15:1-8)

Jesus said to his disciples:
‘I am the true vine,
and my Father is the vinedresser.
Every branch in me that bears no fruit
he cuts away,
and every branch that does bear fruit
he prunes to make it bear even more.
You are pruned already,
by means of the word that I have spoken to you.
Make your home in me, as I make mine in you.
As a branch cannot bear fruit all by itself,
but must remain part of the vine,
neither can you unless you remain in me.
I am the vine,
you are the branches.
Whoever remains in me, with me in them,
bears fruit in plenty;
for cut off from me you can do nothing.
Anyone who does not remain in me
is like a branch that has been thrown away – and withers;
these branches are collected and thrown on the fire,
and they are burnt.
If you remain in me
and my words remain in you,
you may ask what you will
and you shall get it.
It is to the glory of my Father that you should bear much fruit,
and then you will be my disciples.’

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL

You might like to take a few moments to shape some Prayers of the Faithful. The following themes may be a prompt:

  • a prayer of thanks for certain key people in your life – past or present
  • a prayer for those feeling isolated, diminished or lonely
  • a prayer for the faith community to make a difference for others in the world
  • a prayer for the leadership of welcomes and inclusion of others we can each exercise
  • a prayer for countries where COVID-19 is still exceedingly out of control
  • ?
  • ?

And so let’s now bring the gifts of bread and wine to the altar for this streaming of the second part of today’s  Mass from Our Lady of the Way
